Well, the plan for this year’s Halloween costume kinda fell through. I thought I had a few more years of being able to pick out what I wanted him to dress up as before he put up a fight…but no – not my kid. Last year, I made Augie a homemade Snoopy costume which I loved. It was nothing fancy, but it was easy to make and it was cute so for me it was a win win situation.

This year, he asked to be a pirate because we bought him a pirate dress up set as a souvenir when we were on vacation in Hilton Head this past summer. That is…he wanted to be a pirate until we saw the Marshall costume at Target and he had a meltdown in the middle of the aisle like a typical 2 year.

Normally, I would not give in to such behavior…but let’s be honest, there was no way he was going to wear my homemade pirate costume after he saw the Marshall one anyways. I would like to think that he would appreciate my hard work, but I think it’s gonna take another 16 years at least before that happens.

I guess that’s fine though. I am always swamped with projects in October anyhow, probably better off that I don’t need to make his costume on top of everything else!

That all being said, I took him to one of my favorite places for a little mini shoot in his costume so I can always remember how ridiculous it looks….and how happy it makes him. The hat is too small and it makes his hair look like i curled it with a big barrel curling iron, the pants are too short, it’s see through…the list goes on. But it doesn’t really matter because look at that smile!

Pure. Joy.

He’s so proud of himself whenever he has it on and he struts around with such confidence that you can’t help but think he is the most adorable thing on the planet when you see him in it. And that, my friends, is how Halloween should be.
